It’s been a while since I’ve done a Tuesday on the Run link up MCM Mamma Runs, Marcia’s Healthy Slice, and My No Guilt Life. This week’s topic is what’s the best thing about running so I thought I’d share my thoughts.
I’ve blogged about it before but honestly, the best thing about running is the community that comes with running. Yes, there are a few bad apples in the group but I’ve found that the running community has been the most grounded and supportive group of people I’ve ever had in my life.
There has been many times where I’ve doubt my ability to run a pace and literally seconds after those words leave my mouth (or is posted online), it’s always someone in the community who pipes up with encouragement. I’ve had people that I have never met offline offer advice, encouragement, and even offer to pace me if I needed it.
It’s way more fun on race day (or at the race expo) when you are physically with and are surrounded by such positive people. Before, at race expos, I’d be in and out as fast as I could but now, I enjoy it way more as usually a core group of the running community (in Toronto) would pick a time and we would all go to the expo together and have a blast. We’d end up chit chatting about our goals and our excitement about the race.
I personally find that it really helps with pre-race jitters when we are all hanging out together, taking photos, and just chatting mindlessly before a race as we all know what a pain it can be when you have to be at a race early to get situated then be stuck standing around for like an hour debating if an extra porta-potty visit is necessary (yes, it always is).
In the end, as much as I LOVE hoarding all the running clothes and shoes, my overall favourite part about running would be the running community itself.
QOTD: What do you think is the best part about running?
