So last week was DEFINITELY as easy week for me. I wasn’t feeling too well so I took it easy and then on Sunday, I was about to go on a run and oh my goodness it was snowing! I was not prepared for it so I stayed indoors ): I spent the day dragging out my winter gear instead and making a list of what I’d need since all I have out are short shorts and line leggings … not snow ready! Anyways, this was supposed to go up yesterday but I went for a impromptu massage/cupping session. The mainly area of focus was my right IT band and holy moly did she work it for me and then suddenly, she asked if I wanted cupping done and well … I agreed! Boy was I not ready for how it felt! haha
According to Wikipedia, “Cupping therapy is an ancient Chinese form of alternative medicine in which a local suction is created on the skin; practitioners believe this mobilizes blood flow in order to promote healing. Suction is created using heat (fire) or mechanical devices (hand or electrical pumps)” I don’t know if it works or not but holy moly did it hurt!! I meant to put this post up yesterday but I was in so much pain I just didn’t want to move! The marks have changed from a light pink in the photo to a dark bruise-like purple. Putting on pants hurt! The therapist said that it should go away in 3-4 days so I’ll let you know how I feel then.
WedMD claims that cupping supposedly helps
- Blood disorders such as anemia and hemophilia
- Rheumatic diseases such as arthritis and fibromyalgia
- Fertility and gynecological disorders
- Skin problems such as eczema and acne
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Anxiety and depression
- Bronchial congestion caused by allergies and asthma
- Varicose veins
I’m hoping that by next week I’ll be up and running again!
So how was your week of training? Have you tried cupping? Did it work??
