Monday on the Run Update

It has been months since I did a Monday on a Run! If you’ve been reading for the last few weeks, you would have seen that after my race in Mississauga I haven’t really done a running update. My Mondays were filled with recipes instead. Why? Well I needed a break. I’ve spoken about being on a break previously but today I’m going to talk about where I am at currently.



I’m averaging maybe 20-25K a week right now and well, I’m not happy with that but I’m also not unhappy. What do I mean by that? Well, I had needed a break and my wanting that coincided with my work schedule increasing. I’ve been happily doing 5Ks sprinkled throughout the week with a longer trail run on Wednesdays with a trail group. However, I’d ideally like to up my mileage to 30-35K a week just to maintain a better base. I’m trying to figure out where I am right now in terms of what I want to do. It’s been six months post graduation and I haven’t been actively seeking anything “in my field” as I’m not even sure what my field consists of. However, that doesn’t mean I’m not working. I’ve picked up more shifts at my currently place and picked up a few gigs on the side because the student loans people are sending me letters! So this means that now that I’m ready to ramp up my mileage, my schedule is making it difficult. Long story short, I didn’t want to run but now I want to run but am having trouble finding the time. Folks share with me how you manage this! And pleaseeeee don’t tell me to wake up at 4AM because I really don’t see that in my near future due to my work schedule. However, I did get my hands on the new Polar M200! I’m looking forward to using it and writing up a review (stay tuned for a potential giveaway too!) so I’ll have to make time to run so I can play with this new toy!


Recently, I’ve started ramping up the recipes on my blog. Why? Because it’s been something I’ve been meaning to do for 3 years now and just never got around to it. I love making food because it’s just something that I find relaxing. It takes my mind off other things while I’m stressed out. I’ve always been more of a freehander when it comes to measurements so I’ve always had trouble with writing down recipes. I mean “a handful of flax seeds” can mean anything depending on the size of your hands vs mine (I have tiny hands). Now I’m working on that so I can share what I’m attempting to make in the kitchen. It’s actually kind of nice because now I can actually recreate favours I’ve made in the past because I could never remember how many of each spices I had put in.


Some of you have noticed I am now also @curiouslychasing. That’s right, on top of @runcarmyrun, @rotheshihtzu, and @otherpeoplesdogsCA, I gave myself another Instagram. Call me crazy. I’ve always been a fan of traveling. My favourite style of travel is what some might hashtag #traveldeeper or #slowtravel. In other words, I like spending a long time in one place to really get to know it. When I was younger, I’d used to spend entire summers in California just hanging out and doing something different each day. However, while I was in university, I couldn’t “afford” to travel. I put afford in quotes because many people would disagree as when there’s a will, there’s a way and I agree.  When I say cannot afford, I mean I was paying for over 2 years on my own without student loans (after borrowing money for the first 2 years, I didn’t want to put myself into more debt). This meant that whatever waking hour I had outside of school, studying, and running, I was at work so I could fund my schooling and other expenses. So it wasn’t feasible for me.

Now that I’m done school, you may have noticed that in the past 6 months I’ve been exploring Ontario, took a road trip to Ottawaspent 55 hours in New York, flew over to Montreal for 4 days, and now I’m getting ready to go to Portugal and then Orlando! This is definitely not the “super slow” travel style that I grew up with but it has been satisfying my itch to travel. I’d love to have stayed longer but my current work schedule makes it difficult to take long periods of time off. However, I’m grateful that I’m actually able to travel and am actively seeking ways to be able to travel more in 2017! I’m hoping to keep up my trend of a weekly #TravelTuesday post and I hope you stick around for it! While it is a shift in what my blog was originally, I do try to incorporate fitness into my travels so keep an eye out for that!

  1. I agree on not getting up at 4am. when im training (im kind of on a break right now too), i run tues, thurs, sat, sun. I run right after work so I dont get lazy, and this time of year that means bringing lights with me because its dark! But I also run both saturday and sunday- i can always make time on a weekend

  2. Running and food goes hand in hand. You really need to fuel your body right for good results. It’s great that you are extending the food recipes on your blog.

  3. Holy cow that sounds like a lot of miles! No wonder you’re upping the recipes. You need to refuel. 🙂 And it sounds like you’re a busy girl. Have fun with all your travels!

  4. I do not miss getting up at 4am to run! Thankfully I can get my workouts done during the day now!
    Keep doing what you want with your blog! Recipe posts are wonderful! Love seeing what other people come up with 🙂
