Baked Cheesy Shrimp Wontons
Over the last year, it felt like all my friends were moving away from me! Everyone was leaving Toronto for Ajax, Oakville, Oshawa, etc but recently, one of my gelato buddies moved 400m away from me! As someone who’s been trying to convince everyone and their mom to move into my neighbourhood, I was one happy peach.
Over the weekend, she had her housewarming party and I finally got to make something that I had really wanted to make! Whenever I go to a sushi restaurant, there’s almost always a deep fried shrimp wonton or a deep fried cheese wonton. Of course, I always have to order it because hello, deep fried deliciousness!
So for her housewarming, I thought, why not combine them?! But as someone without a deep fryer (and would love a healthier alternative), I went with baking.
To make this cheesy shrimp wonton recipe, you’ll need a baking tray or two, non-stick pan spray, and a little brush to put on the egg wash. If you don’t have a brush, you can always use your finger ;)
Below is how I put the little wontons together. I personally found that the method below allows for more “stuffing” to go inside. I also tried making it by folding it into a triangle then the two ends into the middle. It looks just as cute but it holds less of the stuffing. However, it’s a good alternative if you’re running low on stuffing or if you have extra wonton wrappers that you want to use up.
Step by Step: How to Fold These Baked Cheesy Shrimp Wontons
Easy peasy right?
Baked Cheesy Shrimp Wontons
Ingredients
- 1 lb cooked shrimp, peeled, deveined, minced
- 250 grams cream cheese, room temperature
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 50 wonton wrappers
- 1 egg beaten
Instructions
- Heat oven up to 400F and lightly coat your baking tray with a non-stick spray.
- In a large bowl, mix together the shrimp, cream cheese, and garlic.
- Assemble the wontons by putting a dollop of mixture into the centre of the wonton wrapper (a bit more than 1 teaspoon), brush the egg wrap on the edge of the wonton wrapper, and then fold the edges up making an X.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes until the wontons are crispy and golden brown.
