    This simple but delicious cottage cheese with fruit breakfast bowl recipe is one of my favorites for busy mornings. It comes together quickly and easily and makes for a nutritious breakfast. Have breakfast ready in 10 minutes or less!

    This cottage cheese and fruit recipe makes for such a tasty breakfast or snack! It only requires a handful of ingredients and is the perfect base recipe as it’s extremely easy to modify.

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • Cottage cheese is a wonderful source of protein, so it’ll leave you feeling satiated. Half a cup of 2% MF cottage cheese (110 grams) has 12 grams of protein!
    • This breakfast bowl comes together so easily. Simply toss the fruit in some honey, basil, and lime and add it to the cottage cheese. If you’re in a hurry, you can skip that entirely and just add the fruit to the cottage cheese.
    • Who doesn’t want cheese for breakfast? What a fun treat. The fruit is also perfect for when I’m craving something sweet in the morning. It also makes for a filling mid-day snack for when I’m feeling peckish!

    Ingredients You’ll Need

    Ingredients needed to make cottage cheese with fruit.

    No special ingredients are needed! Here are the key ingredients to making this breakfast fruit bowl. You can find the full list of ingredients with measurements in the cottage cheese with fruit recipe card down below.

    fruit — I’m a big fan of a handful of assorted berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Feel free to use what you have on hand. I’ve really been digging adding persimmons to cottage cheese lately! Check out my DIY vinegar fruit wash if you want to read more about cleaning your fruit. I personally always clean my fruits and berries immediately so it’s much easier to snack on or use throughout the week.

    honey — for some extra sweetness, a bit of honey goes a long way. I’ve also used maple syrup in this recipe. It’s up to you what sweetener you prefer!

    lime — some lime juice and zest really balances out the sweetness of the honey and fruit. I love the bright and zingy tartness that the lime adds.

    basil — adding fresh basil can enhance the flavor of the fruits by adding a unique extra layer of flavor.

    cottage cheese — cottage cheese is a low-calorie cheese with a mild flavor, so the combination of fruits and the add-ins really help flavor it. It’s soft, white, and creamy, and it comes in different milk fat levels and curd sizes. I’m using 2% MF (2% milk fat) and usually just pick whichever container is on sale!

    How to Make Cottage Cheese with Fruit

    • Combine the fruit with the lime juice, lime zest, honey, and basil in a bowl.
    • Mix to combine.

    • Scoop half a cup of cottage cheese into a bowl, plate, or cup.
    • Top with a quarter of the fruit mixture, making sure to drizzle the liquid in the bottom of the bowl on the cottage cheese. Enjoy!

    Recipe Tips and Notes

    • Make sure to cut your fruit into bite sizes as needed. I usually like to use berries since I can just grab them without cutting them.
    • If you are not a fan of the texture, you can blend the cottage cheese to make whipped cottage cheese!
    • Chia seeds, hemp hearts, jam, nut butter, and granola make for a delicious addition to these cottage cheese fruit bowls as well.

    Make Ahead Tips

    • Meal prep: I recommend storing the fruit and cottage cheese separately in airtight containers for up to 4 days in the fridge.
    • You can also buy containers with a divider to make this into a quick grab-and-go breakfast. If your fruit is cut, it will release juices as it sits in the fridge.
    • Keep in mind that if you’re using a fruit such as apples, they’ll oxidize and change color once cut.

    What Else Can I Add to The Cottage Cheese?

    There are so many things you can add to his cottage cheese fruit bowl! This fruity cottage cheese recipe is the perfect base for add ons from chia seeds to hemp hearts to granola. I treat it like my super easy yogurt bowl and just put all my favorite breakfast toppings on it! If you want something savory, you should try my cottage cheese peanut butter bowl recipe!     What Fruits Go Well with Cottage Cheese?

    I love using berries! I also love anything that’s quite juicy, such as pineapple, as the juices released go well with the lime and honey combination, making for almost a syrup to drizzle over the cottage cheese. If you’re in a tropical mood, you can use some chopped mango with pineapple and top it with shredded coconut! The options are truly endless.

    • 1 lime, juiced and zested
    • 3 tablespoons honey
    • 1 handful basil, ribboned
    • ¾ cup blackberries
    • ¾ cup strawberries, sliced
    • ¾ cup blackberries
    • 2 cups cottage cheese, 2% MF

    Instructions

    • Add the blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, lime juice, lime zest, honey, and basil in a bowl. Mix to combine.
    • Scoop half a cup of cottage cheese into a bowl, plate, or cup. Top with a quarter of the fruit mixture, making sure to drizzle the liquid in the bottom of the bowl on the cottage cheese. Repeat with the rest of the cottage cheese and fruit. Enjoy!

    Notes

    Instead of ¾ cups of each of the blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries, you can use 2¼ cups of fruit of your choice.
