Toasted Marshmallow and Oreo Milkshake
Last month, I shared with you the first Loblaw’s 2018 Canadian Food Trend: reviving leftovers with these 3 recipes for using up your leftover rotisserie chicken. This month, we are looking at the Occasional Indulgence. Canadians are forgetting the “rule book” when it comes to cooking and having more fun with their meals such as embracing delicious and outrageous summer desserts like Freak Shakes. Freak Shakes are over-the-top milkshakes that is all about going that extra mile and being extra.
This Toasted Marshmallow and Oreo Milkshake is my version of being extra. I love s’mores and I love cookies and cream and I’m always torn between the two when I’m ordering so I decided to throw caution to the wind and COMBINE THEM. I mean, the only person holding me back is myself right?
When I saw the President Choice s’more kit at Loblaws, I knew it was a sign! I was going to go all out and live my best life lol.
What you’ll need for this Toasted Marshmallow and Oreo Milkshake
- s’more kit consisting of: chocolate, marshmallows, graham crackers
- Oreo cookies (double stuffed because YOLO and the mini to decorate the glass with!)
- vanilla ice cream (I used PC Black Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Ice Cream)
- chocolate hazelnut spread
- milk
Tips and Tricks for making the perfect Toasted Marshmallow and Oreo Milkshake
- while you can put the marshmallows straight into the milkshake and call it a day, go the extra mile and toast it for that delicious toasted/nutty/roasted flavour that kicks the milkshake up a notch.
- the easiest way to toast a lot of marshmallows at once is by placing them in a pan and broiling it for 2-3 minutes in the oven. Work fast as it’ll brown very quickly and it’ll be sticky to work with after.
- using my blender, I blended up some graham crackers to coat the rim of my chocolate covered milkshake glass with.
- I used a chocolate hazelnut spread to coat the outside of the top part of my milkshake glass – this is like a glue that lets you decorate your glass to your heart’s content.
- Others may suggest adding more ice cream to thicken your milkshake, the secret to this super thick milkshake is the toasted marshmallows! While it doesn’t look super thick, the ooey gooey-ness of the marshmallows really thicken up the milkshakes! Be sure to have a spoon handy if your straw doesn’t cut it ;)

Toasted Marshmallow and Oreo Milkshake
Ingredients
- 30 marshmallows
- 10 graham crackers
- 2 pieces chocolate
- 6 oreos
- 1 pint vanilla ice cream
- 1/3 cup milk
To Decorate
- chocolate hazelnut spread
- crushed graham crackers
- mini oreo
- whipped cream
- toasted marshmallows
Instructions
- In a blender (I used my Vitamix), blend some graham crackers (around 5) to make the crushed graham crackers to coat your glass' rim with. Set it aside for later.
- In a square pan, line the inside and place your marshmallows in. I used all 30 because the more the merrier but it's up to you how many you want to toast for your milkshake.
- Place the pan into the oven and set the broiler on for 3-4 minutes, keeping a close eye on it as it can burn quickly.
- In your blender, place in the rest of your graham crackers, oreos, ice cream, milk, and the toasted marshmallow. Blend until smooth. The amount I have listed above is just a suggestion and it's up to you how much or little of each ingredient you want to use.
- To make your milkshake glass into a freakshake jar, use a spatula to cover the outside and the rim of your milkshake glass with a layer of chocolate hazelnut spread. Turning your cup upside down, place it into your crushed graham crackers to stick onto your cup before placing mini oreos around the cup. Top off your milkshake with whipped cream and toasted marshmallows!
