Easiest Side Dish: Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Sweet Potato, Bacon, and Almonds
The holidays are here! While I’m excited for the snow and going on vacation, I know that holidays can be a stressful time for those who are in charge of making those delicious holiday dinners. But not to worry! I’m here to share with you my secret when it comes to saving time in the kitchen!
You’ve seen me use Mann’s Fresh Vegetables time and time before so it shouldn’t be surprising that Mann’s Fresh Vegetables is my secret weapon when it comes to saving time in the kitchen. The vegetables come pre-washed so they’re ready to go and some of them, such as the sweet potatoes I’m using, are pre-cut! That’s a good 5-10 minutes of peeling and dicing that I don’t have to do.
What Are Brussels Sprouts?
Brussels sprouts are a small compact bud of a variety of cabbage. Brussels sprouts are named after the fact that they were cultivated in Belgium in the 16th century which is why they’re called Brussels sprouts and not brussel sprouts.
I honestly never enjoyed eating them growing up because they were either steamed, boiled, or mushy. Plus they were bitter! So once I became an #adult, I just never made them while living on my own. That is, until I went to a dinner event a year ago and the chef made the most delicious brown butter roasted Brussels sprouts and since then, Brussels sprouts have happily taken back their rightful spot at the dinner table!
How to make Brussels Sprouts delicious
To avoid the bitterness of Brussels sprouts, I recommend roasting them in the oven. Roasting them with some oil causes the Brussels sprouts to caramelize and gives it a sweeter and nutty flavour.
