This Lemon Garlic Peas recipe is such a quick and easy sautéed peas side dish. It’s the perfect side dish that can be made within minutes for when you don’t know what to make!

Side dishes don’t have to be complicated! Whenever I need something quick, I always pull out my giant bag of frozen peas and whip up this lemon garlic green peas recipe real quick. All you need are a handful of simple ingredients, and you’ll have a side of healthy greens in no time.

Why You’ll Love This Side Dish

    • It literally takes less than 10 minutes to make.
    • Almost everything is in my freezer, so it can pretty much be made at a moment’s notice (see my post on how to freeze garlic and how to freeze butter for tips!).
    • It’s tasty! Green peas are one of my go-to vegetables, and I love how easy it is to cook frozen peas and how tasty they come out.

    Ingredients You’ll Need

    Ingredients to make sautéed peas.
    • frozen peas — no need to thaw!
    • butter — I recommend using unsalted butter. If you only have salted butter, simply reduce the added salt.
    • garlic — the more, the merrier!
    • lemon — you’ll need a splash of lemon juice and its zest.
    • salt

    How to Cook Frozen Peas

Frozen peas, rinsed in warm water.
    Butter melted in a skillet.
    • Rinse the peas in a fine mesh strainer under warm water. There’s no need to spend time to thaw it ahead of time as this takes care of it within seconds.
    • In a skillet on medium heat, melt the butter. Then add the minced garlic to the skillet.

Peas added to the skillet of butter and garlic.
    • Sauté the garlic for 2 minutes before adding the peas.
    • Season with some salt and sauté for another 2 to 3 minutes, until the peas have softened.
    • Remove the pan from the heat, stir in some lemon zest, and add a splash of lemon juice.

    Recipe Tips

    • Avoid overcooking the peas. If cooked for too long, they lose their vibrant green colour.
    • Add as much or as little lemon juice and lemon zest as you’d like. I like my peas lemony, but H doesn’t, so it’s all about your personal preference!
    • Feel free to use this in a meal prep! To reheat, you just have to microwave it for a minute or so.
