Quick, easy, and flavourful, these Air Fryer Sweet Potato Cubes make for the perfect side dish for any meal – breakfast, lunch, or dinner. These roasted air fryer sweet potatoes also make for a great snack! Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, you’re going to want to make them all the time!

Who wants an easy side dish? These little bites of sweet potatoes are tossed in pantry staple seasonings and then roasted until crispy and brown in the air fryer. I love how simple it is to whip up with accessible ingredients.

Why You’ll Love Making Air Fried Sweet Potato Cubes

    • They make for the perfect healthy snack. Crispy little bites of sweet potatoes come together so easily that they make for a great afterschool snack or just whenever you’re feeling peckish.
    • They’re fast! You can have this done in under 20 minutes if you’re quick with your knife. All you have to do is peel, dice, and season the sweet potatoes then the air fryer does the rest.
    • They’re crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They’re also the perfect mix of sweet from the sweet potatoes and savoury from the seasonings.

    Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients needed to make air fryer sweet potato cubes.
    • sweet potatoes — there are many different varieties of sweet potatoes. I use Garnet Sweet Potatoes. Their skin is reddish/dark orange and the flesh inside is orange. They have a mildly sweet taste. Only have white potatoes? Try making my air fryer breakfast potatoes instead!
    • olive oil — I prefer olive oil but you can use any neutral oil of your choice.
    • seasonings — I use a combination of garlic powder, onion powder, dried basil, paprika, salt, and pepper.
    • oil spray — to make the potatoes super crispy, I spray a bit of oil onto the sweet potatoes after shaking the basket.

How to Make Air Fryer Sweet Potato Cubes

    • Diced sweet potatoes in a bowl.
    • Seasoned sweet potato cubes.
    • Peel and dice the sweet potatoes into small bite-sized pieces.
    • Toss in olive oil and seasonings.
    • Sweet potato cubes in the air fryer basket.
    • Air fried sweet potato cubes.
    • Add the diced sweet potatoes to the air fryer basket, while some overlap is okay, try to keep it as close to a single layer as possible.
    • Air fry the sweet potato cubes at 400F for 10 minutes. Give the basket a shake and spray a bit of oil on top and air fry for another 5 minutes.

    Recipe Tips and Notes

    • Uniform potato cubes cook more evenly so try to cut them as close to the same size as possible.
    • If you want to double the recipe, you’ll need to do so in two batches. Overcrowding the air fryer basket will lead to soggy sweet potatoes.
    • To make this spicier, add around ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the seasonings.
    • For a sweeter side dish, add around ½ teaspoon brown sugar to the seasoning or a drizzle of maple syrup to the potatoes before air frying.

Do you have to soak sweet potatoes in water before air frying?

Nope, no need to soak sweet potatoes! Sweet potatoes don’t contain as much starch as white potatoes (such as russets) so they can crisp up in the air fryer without the extra step.

Are sweet potatoes healthier than regular potatoes?

Both have their pros and cons as they both have a variety of nutrients. I don’t subscribe to the idea that one is healthier than the other as I enjoy both!

Can I keep the skin on the sweet potatoes?

If you wish to, sure! You just need to give the potatoes a thorough scrub and pat them dry. You don’t want added moisture as it’ll cause the potatoes to steam instead of crisp up in the air fryer.

    How do I store leftovers?

While these sweet potato cubes are best eaten freshly air-fried, they keep up to 4 days in an airtight container in the fridge. Simply reheat them in the air fryer to keep them crispy.

    My Recommendation
This is the air fryer I use. I love how large this air fryer is! It can fit a whole chicken or 2 bags of frozen French fries!
