This super easy and delicious Chipotle Crema with Lime comes together quickly with a few simple ingredients. It takes less than 5 minutes to whip up with pantry staples. Add this chipotle lime crema to tacos, salads, or use it as a dipping sauce.
This chipotle lime crema is spicy, tangy, and oh so creamy. I am obsessed with it and have been using it with almost everything and anything. I love making a batch of this at the beginning of the week to drizzle over my lunches or dinner.

This super simple chipotle crema is flavourful and packs a punch so feel free to adjust the amount of chipotle in adobo you add to it. I like mine spicy!
Ingredients You’ll Need

- sour cream — I highly recommend using full fat sour cream. Save the low fat option for another recipe.
- chipotle in adobo sauce — pictured above, a key ingredient that cannot be skipped or substituted. It’s spicy, sweet, and smoky all at once! You’ll need both the peppers inside as well as the sauce.
- lime — fresh lime juice is mandatory. I do not recommend using bottled lime juice. Feel free to add lime zest as well for an extra kick.
- sugar — just a pinch to balance our the heat and tang. You can use honey as well.
- garlic — you’ll need two cloves but feel free to add more!
- mayo — this is optional. If you have mayo, feel free to add a tablespoon or two to this chipotle lime crema. If you don’t have it, feel free to skip it.
How to Make Chipotle Crema
- To a small food processor, add the sour cream, chipotle in adobo sauce, lime juice, sugar, salt, and cloves of garlic.
- Blend until the chipotle crema is smooth.

Recipe Tips and Notes
- If you want the crema to be more thin, you can add a splash of water or additional lime juice. It’s easier to make this thinner than thicker so only do so after you’ve blended up the crema.
- Want to lighten this up? Use nonfat plain Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream.
- Store extra chipotle lime crema in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- You won’t need the whole can of chipotle in adobo sauce. If you don’t have a use for it within the next few days, you can freeze it for next time. I use my Souper Cubes tablespoon tray so I can pop out what I need.
