Why You’ll Love These Chicken Thighs

These chicken thighs are the perfect balance of sweet from the honey and salty/umami from the soy sauce. It’s so simple to put together from pantry staples and it goes well with pretty much any side you make. Even better is that these honey soy chicken thighs are freezer friendly so you can pre-marinate the thighs and freeze for up to 3 months.

I served my honey soy garlic chicken thighs with some rice and edamame beans but here are some other sides you may enjoy:

    • mashed potatoes
    • oven roasted asparagus
    • quick pickled carrots
    • air fryer brussels sprouts

    Shopping List

    • honey
    • soy sauce —I recommend using low sodium soy sauce
    • crushed garlic cloves: I like using cloves for this recipe but alternatively, you can use a tbsp of garlic powder
    • olive oil
    • chicken thighs: boneless, skinless thighs

You’ll also need something to bake this in. I use this baking dish from Staub.

How To Bake These Chicken Thighs

    glass bowl marinating chicken thighs

    • In a large bowl or a ziploc bag, combine the honey, soy sauce, crushed garlic cloves, and olive oil and mix until combined.
    • Marinate the chicken thighs for a minimum as 30-40 minutes or overnight if time allows it.

chicken thighs in a baking dish

    • Heat oven to 425F.
    • Add everything (thighs as well as marinade) into a baking dish and bake for 10 minutes. Flip the chicken thighs and bake for another 15 minutes.
    • Serve when ready or portion out into meal prep containers.

    Tips and Notes

    • How to prep this for the freezer: place the marinade and chicken thighs in a large freezer friendly ziploc bag, to prep this meal ahead of time. Freeze for up to 3 months. When ready, thaw overnight in the fridge before baking.
    • Meal prep: store the cooked meal in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge.
    • This chicken thigh recipe can be swapped for chicken breasts but you’ll just have to change the baking time so it doesn’t overcook (usually around 20 minutes).
    • Chicken thighs are done when they’ve reached an internal temperature of 165F/74C. I use an instant read meat thermometer to check.
