This easy baked Firecracker Chicken recipe is going to knock your socks off! This Firecracker Baked Chicken Thighs is spicy, full of flavour, and works great for dinner or as a meal prep!
Firecracker Baked Chicken Thighs
Are you looking for a spicy af chicken recipe? My partner loves spicy foods so this recipe was right up his alley! Just a heads up, this recipe is actually pretty spicy in my option – I does use 1/2 cup of sriracha sauce! If you want to decrease the spice, I’d recommend adding less sriracha, a little more brown sugar, and soy sauce.
What You’ll Need To Make This Firecracker Chicken
- Firecracker sauce (duh!)
- sriracha
- brown sugar
- soy sauce
- garlic
- red pepper flakes
- salt
- chicken thighs
How To Make Firecracker Chicken Thighs at Home
- Combine the firecracker sauce ingredients and marinade your chicken thighs in the sauce for 20-30 minutes.
- Heat your oven up to 375F.
- When ready, add the chicken thighs to a greased baking dish and bake the chicken for 35-40 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to make sure the internal temperature to 165F/75C to check if the thighs are cooked through.
- For extra crispy skin, set the chicken under the broiler and broil for 3 minutes, keeping an eye on it as the skin can burn easily due to the sauce.
Tips and Notes on Making This Baked Firecracker Chicken Thighs
- Chicken thighs are cooked once they reach 165F/73C. I used this meat thermometer to check the temperature of my chicken
- Ideas on what to serve with firecracker chicken: roasted broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, rice noodles, rice, quinoa, chow mein.
- To meal prep this recipe, I packed the firecracker chicken with roasted broccoli and rice.
- To make this a freezer recipe, you can freeze the chicken after adding the marinade. Thaw overnight in the fridge before baking.
- I used these airtight containers to store my chicken and I used these silicone bags to marinade my chicken in.
Can I Substitute…
- Chicken breasts or drumsticks for the chicken thighs? Yes
- A different hot sauce? Maybe – I find that sriracha tastes different than regular hot sauce so it might change the overall flavour of this firecracker chicken.

- 3 cloves garlic, grated/minced
- 1-2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 tsp salt

- 8 chicken thighs, bone in, skin on
