These sweet oven roasted plums are so easy to make with four ingredients! They come together in a few quick steps and they are so versatile! Enjoy them on their own as a dessert or serve them as a side dish!

I’ve been obsessed with roasting fruit lately. Roasting fruit caramelizes the fruit’s natural sugars and brings out their sweetness. They come out absolutely irresistible and it’s perfect for any occasion.

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • You can add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the roasted plums and turn it into a simple dessert. You can pair it with some Greek yogurt or whipped cottage cheese and turn it into a simple breakfast. You can serve it with some protein like pork or chicken as a side dish.
    • It comes together in next to no work. After cutting the plums in half and removing the seed, you just have to pop them in the oven! Easy peasy!
    • Roasting the plums are perfect if you bought some that are more tart than you prefer, as roasting the plums will bring out the sweetness.

    Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients needed to make roasted plums.
    • plums — you can use red or black plums. Red plums are more sweet-sour, whereas black plums are sweeter. I don’t mind using more sour plums as I can add more brown sugar and maple syrup to sweeten the puree.
    • brown sugar — you can use regular or dark brown sugar.
    • maple syrup — make sure you’re using real maple syrup, not pancake syrup. Real maple syrup comes straight from trees, whereas pancake syrup is usually made with corn syrup.
    • cinnamon — a hint of cinnamon adds a warm flavor to the roasted plums recipe.

    How to Make Roasted Plums

Set of two photos showing a white baking dish brushed with non-stick spray and pitted plums added to it.
    • Heat the oven to 400 F
    • Lightly grease a baking dish or spray with non-stick spray. The baking dish should be large enough to hold the plums without overlapping. Use two baking dishes if you need to.
    • Place plum halves cut side up in the baking dish.

    • Sprinkle the tops of the plums with sugar and cinnamon, then drizzle with maple syrup.
    • Bake plums for 15 to 20 minutes until tender and soft. Super ripe plums will take less time.
    • Remove the baking dish from the oven and let the plums cool for 5 minutes before serving.

    Recipe Tips and Notes

    • Make this a little savory for dinner by roasting the plums with some fresh thyme or rosemary!
    • You can add a bit of butter on top of the plums before roasting to make the syrup a little richer.
    • Make sure you use a baking dish that fits all your plums perfectly. You don’t want to use a dish that’s much too large as you want the plums to cook in their syrup. If the dish is too large, the syrup will spread over the dish and harden.
    • Cardamom makes for a great substitute for nutmeg.
    • Some crushed nuts make for a great topping for the roasted plums.

    Make Ahead Tips

    • Meal prep: once cooled, store the roasted plums in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge.
    • Reheat: you can reheat the roasted plums in the oven, microwave, or air fryer until warmed through.
