Rich, creamy, and ready in minutes, this cottage cheese chocolate mousse recipe only requires a handful of ingredients to make! It’s the perfect sweet treat that is packed with protein! Decadent and satisfying, you’ll want to make this cottage cheese dessert regularly!

Is there something that cottage cheese can’t do? I use them in egg bites, pancakes, scrambled eggs, muffins, and more! I still remember being skeptical the first time I had cottage cheese in university, and now there’s always a tub in my fridge!

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • What’s not to love about a delicious chocolatey treat?! It’s such a refreshing dessert, and it does double duty as cottage cheese has protein in it.
    • You only need four simple ingredients to make this chocolate mousse recipe! You likely have everything already if you are a cottage cheese fan and keep it stocked in the fridge.
    • It’s quick to make! This chocolate mousse with cottage cheese literally comes together in minutes, as all you have to do is throw everything into a blender or food processor, and you’ve got the mousse!

    Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients needed to make cottage cheese chocolate mousse.

cottage cheese — cottage cheese is a low-calorie cheese with a mild flavor, so it doesn’t add any strong flavor. It’s soft, white, and creamy, and when blended, it turns into a smooth, creamy texture. Cottage cheese is a wonderful source of protein, so it’ll leave you feeling satiated. I prefer to use full-fat cottage cheese as it gives me a creamier result, so the texture is closer to mousse. I would recommend sticking to full-fat as it’ll set better as well!

honey — I’m sweetening the mousse with honey, but you can also use maple syrup! I like using honey as it’s thicker than maple syrup, so it’ll help with the mousse setting.

cocoa powder — I recommend using a high quality unsweetened cocoa powder. You can add more if you want a darker, chocolately flavor. You can also use cacao powder if that’s what you have on hand.

vanilla extract — just a dash of vanilla extract to add flavor to the cottage cheese. You can also use vanilla bean paste!

    • Blend on high until the chocolate mousse is completely smooth.
    • Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings or with fresh berries, if desired!

    Recipe Tips and Notes

    • If the cottage cheese mousse is too thin, allow the mousse to set in the fridge for an hour.
    • A spoonful or two of peanut butter adds a delicious peanut butter flavor that pairs wonderfully with the chocolate.
    • If you want to add a little more extra goodness to this mousse recipe, you can blend in one to two teaspoons of chia seeds! This will also help the mousse set better if you are leaving it in the fridge afterwards.
    • Scrape down the sides of your blender or food processor as needed to ensure everything is blended together.
    • Don’t have cottage cheese, try my protein chocolate pudding with Greek yogurt instead!

    Topping Ideas

    • fresh berries — fresh berries such as strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries
    • nuts — some chopped nuts such as almonds, cashews, and pistachios
    • chocolate — chocolate curls, chocolate chips, shaved chocolate, or even melted chocolate
    • nut butter — a drizzle of runny almond butter, peanut butter, cashews, and more
    • cookies — make this even more indulgent by adding some crushed or chopped chocolate chip cookies, Biscoff cookies, Oreo cookies, graham crackers, or even a whole dessert such as cake or brownies!
    • sprinkles, granola, whipped cream, shredded coconut, and more!

    Make Ahead Tips

    • Meal prep: store in an airtight container for up to 4 to 5 days in the fridge. You can even store them in individual jars so you can easily grab and go! Give it a stir before serving if there is any separation.
