    Homemade Peanut Butter

I love homemade peanut butter! It is so easy to make – all you need is one ingredient, peanuts, and that’s it! With homemade peanut butter, you get full control over how you make it and you have full creative control for flavourings.

I like to change things up a lot so making homemade peanut butter is perfect for me because I can make as much or as little as I like, as well as change the flavour as I please. I’m always buying tub after tub of nut butters because I want to try new flavours but that means I end up not finishing the previous tub. With homemade peanut butter, whenever I want to try out a new flavour, I make a small batch at home!

Today, I’m sharing 3 of my favourite variations: honey vanilla, cinnamon raisin, and chocolate! But before I share how I make it, let’s go over some benefits of peanuts!

    Benefits of Peanuts

    • Eating peanuts regularly can reduce your chances of developing cardiovascular disease by about 30%
    • A serving of peanuts (one ounce) is about 30 peanuts (so it’s very easy to get a serving in!)
    • There is 7g of protein per serving of peanuts
    • It costs less than 30 cents for two servings of peanuts which makes it a very low-cost source of protein!
    • Peanuts are also nutrient-rich and low in carbohydrates
    • Peanuts are also a great source of dietary fibre

Come take the 30/30 peanut challenge with me where we incorporate 30 peanuts or two tablespoons of peanut butter into our daily diet for 30 days to experience the full nutritional benefits of peanuts!

How To Make Peanut Butter At Home

If you buy your peanuts roasted, then the only thing you need to do to make peanut butter at home is to put it in the food processor. And that’s it!

how to make homemade peanut butter

    • Start with 1 cup of roasted unsalted peanuts.

how to make homemade peanut butter

    • Your peanuts will look crumbly but don’t worry, soon it’ll turn to what I call, liquid gold!

how to make homemade peanut butter

    • Next your peanuts will start to clump together, almost into a giant ball.

how to make homemade peanut butter in the food processor

    • Continue processing. The ball will break down into what’s now peanut butter!

how to make homemade peanut butter

    • Only at the very end, once the peanut butter is done, do you want to add in your flavour mix ins!

How To Make Flavoured Peanut Butter

how to make honey vanilla peanut butter

    • Honey Vanilla: Stir in 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1 tbsp honey. Do not blend. I find that the blending the honey in can cause the peanut butter to seize up and break. Instead gently stir it in.

how to make cinnamon raisin peanut butter

    • Cinnamon Raisin: Once your peanut butter has formed, blend in 1-2 tbsp of ground cinnamon. Then gently stir in half a cup of raisins. Stir in additional honey or maple syrup if desired.

how to make chocolate peanut butter at home

    • Chocolate: Blend in up to 2 tbsp of cocoa powder. Stir in chocolate chips if you desire.

Everything you need to know about how to make homemade peanut butter/Homemade Peanut Butter FAQ:

    • Equipment
      • You will need a high powered food processor or high powered blender. I use either my Kitchenaid or Vitamix.
      • If your blender or food processor gets too hot, take a break. I experienced overheating after making 6 batches in a row once. You definitely need to take a break or you might burn out the motor.
    • Add Ins
      • Do not add any liquid-based ingredients such as honey or syrup. The moisture will cause your butter to be lumpy and not blend smoothly. Stir in your honey afterwards, if you desire.
      • Do not be tempted to add water or oil during the process of blending. Adding water will cause the peanut butter to seize up and it can’t be saved. Ask me how I know and if I’m upset that I threw out a few batches previously.
    • Storage
      • Store the homemade peanut butter in airtight containers in the fridge. I use weck jars.

      • Peanut butter can be frozen for up to 3 months.
      • Eat By Date states that homemade peanut butter lasts for up to 3 months in the fridge.
    • Nuts
      • I use unsalted roasted peanuts. Be sure to use roasted peanuts or roast them yourself before blending. Do not put hot nuts into the blender. Hot nuts can melt your blender.
      • 1 cup of peanuts makes a between 1/2 cup to just under 1 cup of peanut butter.
    • What To Make Using Peanut Butter
      • Spread it on toast or a bagel
      • Spicy Peanut Chickpea Curry
      • Peanut Thai Chili Brussels Sprouts
      • Peanut Butter Yogurt Bark
