Creamy Banana Raspberry Avocado Date Smoothie
Okay, I have two secrets to share with you today! First secret: air tight jars are amazing for everything! Not only are mason jars perfect for smoothies, they’re also prefect for keeping berries fresh longer! I got these raspberries from the grocery store and in the past, they’ll go bad within 2-3 days regardless of what I’d do but after leaving it (unwashed) in a mason jar, they stayed fresh! I love having berries last longer without having to freeze it. It just means I get more time to enjoy them and don’t have to eat with them the day I bring them home.
That’s actually what inspired me to make this raspberry smoothie bowl – I had raspberries for much longer in the fridge than expected and was wondering what I could make with them for breakfast one morning. I had some dates on hand and I almost always have frozen avocados in my freezer so I decided to go with a delicious smoothie bowl.
How To Make Thick Creamy Smoothies
Secret number two: how I get my smoothies to be super thick and creamy so it holds up my toppings! I mentioned before that I like making smoothie bowls as I like adding toppings to my smoothies and turning it into a meal. So what’s my secret to having a super thick and creamy smoothies? Frozen bananas and/or avocados!
Because I use frozen bananas and avocados for the smoothie, it’s best to use either a high power blender. I have a vitamix for that but if you don’t, a food processor will get the job done as well (I use this one from cuisinart).
With this Creamy Banana Raspberry Avocado Date Smoothie, you don’t need to add any additional sweeteners as there is a natural, caramel like sweetness from the medjool dates. In addition, because of the dates and banana in this recipe, it can double as not only your breakfast but a pre/post-run fuel thanks to the high amounts of potassium! And if you want to make this more fun? Freeze this smoothie recipe for 30 mins to an hour and it comes out as a nice cream aka diary free ice cream. It really doesn’t get any better than that!
