    This simple creamy Hummus Pasta with Chicken is so quick to make and makes for the perfect meal prep or easy recipe for beginners.

    Why You’ll Love This Hummus Chicken Pasta Recipe

    • It’s great for using up leftovers. We usually have some shredded chicken from meal prepping and hummus lying around so this pasta recipe uses it all up!
    • This is one of those recipes where you almost don’t even need a recipe for. It’s a great beginner recipe as well so if just starting out cooking, you can’t go wrong with this.
    • If you want to make the pasta in the same pot first, this can be a one pot recipe!

    What You’ll Need To Make This Hummus Pasta

    • pasta – I use fettuccine but you can use whatever pasta variety you have on hand.
    • olive oil
    • onion
    • garlic
    • spinach
    • salt
    • hummus
    • shredded chicken – you can also substitute with a plant based option if you want to keep this recipe vegetarian.
    • lemon juice + zest
    • basil
    • red pepper flakes + parmesan for topping

    How to Make Hummus Pasta

    • Cook your pasta according to the directions on the packaging, reserving some pasta water.
    • In a pot or pan on medium heat, add olive oil and saute onion until soften and add in the mince garlic and saute for a minute.
    • Add in spinach and salt and saute until wilted.
    • Deglaze the pot with the lemon juice and zest.
    • Add in the hummus and ½ cup pasta water, mix until the sauce is smooth. Add more pasta water if you want a less thick sauce.
    • Add in the cooked pasta and shredded chicken and toss to coat.
    • Add in a handful of basil and stir until it’s mixed in.
    • Top with some red pepper flakes and parmesan.

    Tips and Notes

    • Feel free to add more spinach to this recipe. Spinach always shrinks once cooked so you can go up to 4 cups of spinach and not be overwhelmed with it.
    • Add your pasta water slowly. I start with half a cup and add more if needed.
    • Deglazing is adding liquid to a hot pan and giving the bottom of the pan a gentle nudge with a wooden spoon. This allows all of the caramelized bits stuck to the bottom to loosen off the pan. You definitely should not skip this step as that’s how you get all that delicious flavour.

    Storage Tips

    • Meal Prep: Store your meal prep hummus pasta in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.
    • Freezer: While I haven’t tried freezing this recipe, hummus and pasta itself are freezer friendly. However, if you plan on freezing this pasta, I would not add the spinach as it might get mushy when thawed.

    • 10 oz fettuccine pasta, or pasta of choice
    • 1-2 tbsp olive oil
    • 1 onion, sliced
    • 3 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 cups spinach
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1 cup hummus
    • 2 cups shredded chicken

    • 1 handful basil
    • red pepper flakes + parmesan for topping
