Made with only a handful of ingredients, this mint yogurt sauce is a quick and simple recipe you’ll want to make again and again. Creamy, refreshing, and flavorful, it’s perfect for serving with protein, vegetables, or bread.
If you need a versatile sauce, this mint yogurt sauce is one of my favorites. It’s easy to whip up in seconds and it goes with everything! Even better, since it’s made with Greek yogurt, you’ve got some extra protein added to your day!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- This mint yogurt sauce only requires five ingredients, not including salt and pepper! The short ingredient list is one of my favorite reasons for making this at home.
- This mint Greek yogurt sauce is an extremely versatile dish. Serve it over some meat like grilled chicken, vegetables like brussels sprouts or crispy potatoes, or just with some flatbread or chips. It’s also great with this crispy baked chicken cutlet recipe and oven baked pork chop recipe!
- Thanks to using Greek yogurt as the base of this sauce, it’s quite light. While I love a good sour cream based sauce or dip, it can be a little heavy (which makes it hard to eat more haha).
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Greek yogurt — you’ll need plain Greek yogurt. However, if you don’t want to add lemon zest and juice to the yogurt, you can use lemon-flavored Greek yogurt! You can use low-fat or regular Greek yogurt but I prefer regular Greek yogurt. While regular yogurt is great, this recipe uses Greek yogurt as it is thicker, tangier, and more protein-rich than regular yogurt. It’s also higher in protein and lower in sugar.
- mint — you’ll want fresh mint leaves for the best flavor.
- lemon — the lemon zest is what gives the yogurt sauce its strong lemon flavor without requiring a ton of lemon juice.
- garlic — in my opinion, freshly minced garlic is much tastier than jarred pre-minced garlic. Once a year, I buy a ton of fresh garlic from the garlic festive and mince them to freeze so I have freshly minced garlic year round without having to mince them for every recipe.
- cayenne pepper powder — the heat from the pinch of cayenne pepper powder doesn’t make this sauce spicy but adds a bit of extra flavor. You can also use paprika instead if you’re worried about heat.
- salt & pepper
How to Make Mint Yogurt Sauce
- To a bowl, add the Greek yogurt, chopped mint leaves, lemon zest, minced garlic, cayenne pepper powder, salt, pepper, and lemon juice.
- Mix well to combine.
- Season with additional salt and pepper if desired. Chill for later in an airtight container or serve immediately.
Recipe Tips and Notes
- If you’re not in the mood to chop the mint leaves and garlic, you can add everything to a food processor and let it do the work for you.
- Make sure to wash and dry the mint leaves and lemon thoroughly before adding them to the yogurt!
- You get a creamier and richer sauce if you use full-fat Greek yogurt compared to low-fat.
Make Ahead Tips
- Meal prep: store the sauce an airtight container for up to 5 days in the fridge.
- Freezer: I haven’t tried freezing this mint yogurt sauce. I don’t recommend it as the sauce may become a little bit grainy after freezing and thawing.
