Beyond easy to make with only two ingredients, this crispy Air Fryer Halloumi recipe comes together in a few short minutes! This post will show you everything you need to know about air frying halloumi. Perfect as a snack on its own or as a part of an appetizer, lunch, or dinner.
Air frying halloumi is so easy and I love you can use it in so many different ways. Enjoy the halloumi on its own as a snack or on top of a grain bowl, salad bowl, in a sandwich, and more!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- I use to pan fry halloumi but every since making it in the air fryer, I’m not going back! I love how it’s hands-free with the air fryer. I don’t have to flip it or keep an eye on it.
- I love how effortless it is to make crispy halloumi in the air fryer. Just brush it with some oil and you’re good to go.
- It’s honestly so addictive. I can munch on this all day.
What is Halloumi?
Halloumi (or haloumi) is a semi-hard, unripened, brined cheese made from a mixture of goat’s and sheep’s milk from Cyprus. Halloumi has a similar texture to mozzarella but a saltier taste with a “squeaky” feel to it. I know, it’s a lot but it’s somehow soft, salt, gooey, squeaky, and crispy all at the same time! Halloumi doesn’t melt like a traditional cheese so it keeps its shape when you fry halloumi.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- halloumi — I got the halloumi pictured above at Costco and my air fryer will comfortably fit one of the bricks when sliced into 6 to 8 pieces.
- oil — while you could forgo the olive oil for the halloumi, I do like how it’s extra crispy with oil.
How to Make Air Fryer Halloumi
- Slice the halloumi into your desired thickness.
- Brush both sides with olive oil.
- Place the halloumi cheese into the air fryer basket.
- Air fry the halloumi cheese at 400F for 8 to 10 minutes, depending on how golden you’d like the exterior to be.
Recipe Tips and Notes
- Due to the way halloumi cheese is, placing them side by side would lead to them melting together. They’ve always peeled apart for me.
- Got extra halloumi? Check out my post on how to cook halloumi to learn how to store and freeze fresh halloumi.
- Keep in mind that halloumi is quite salty so you might not want to eat the whole block in one sitting.
- You can cut your halloumi however you’d like: cubes, strips, wedges, etc. Just check on the halloumi earlier if you’ve cut them smaller than I have.
- Try my air fryer garlic bread for another cheesy treat in the air fryer!
Make Ahead Tips
- Meal prep: once cooled, store the air fried halloumi in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge.
- Reheat: you can enjoy leftover crispy halloumi straight from the fridge or warm it back up in the air fryer. I love when the halloumi is warm and crispy but when in a rush, I just eat it cold. No judgements here!

First time I’d heard of halloumi cheese. It was delicious made like this. I didn’t find it to be too salty at all. It will be fun to experiment with different dips and sauces. A good find!
