A double patty cheeseburger with grilled pineapple and bacon, this Aloha Burger is sure to steal the show! Paired with a homemade honey mustard sauce, this sweet and savoury burger is a great way to dress up a burger.
Inspired by the Aloha Yumburger from Jollibee, this homemade aloha burger is filled with such fun flavours. There’s heat from the honey mustard sauce, sweetness from the grilled pineapple, and saltiness from the bacon, this burger has it all!
I was pretty excited when Jollibee opened in Toronto and was quite sad when I moved away and couldn’t just swing by Jollibee for a burger anymore, so I’ve started making my own. While not exactly the same, this copycat will satisfy your cravings. My favourite part is the grilled pineapple, and when making it at home, I can add as many rings as I’d like!
Ingredients You’ll Need
- buns — my favourite buns to buy at the store are brioche buns but you can make your own as well. I love making my cheddar buns for burgers.
- olive oil — just a bit to cook the patties.
- hamburger patties — feel free to use store-bought frozen burgers or make your own. I’ll share how to make your own down below. There’s no need to thaw it if it’s frozen.
- cheddar cheese — to make things easier, I use pre-sliced cheese to save myself the time and effort.
- pineapple slices — when pineapples aren’t in season, I just buy the canned pineapple slices to make things easier.
- cooked bacon — I usually just bake bacon in the oven as it’s simple and hands-off.
- toppings — what are your favourite burger toppings? I usually just go with lettuce and onions.
For the homemade honey mustard sauce, you’ll need:
- Dijon mustard
- mayonnaise
- honey
- cayenne powder
How to Make Aloha Burgers
- In a small bowl, combine the Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, honey, and cayenne powder. Keep covered in the fridge until ready to use.
- In a cast iron skillet with some olive oil on it, add 4 burger patties. Cook them for around 4 to 6 minutes per side, depending on the thickness and size of your burgers. Add an extra minute if they were frozen. Set aside.
- Add another 4 patties to the pan and cook them again. Top with a slice of cheese and cook for another minute so the cheese is melty enough to hold together two patties.
- Meanwhile, on a grill pan, brush lightly with some olive oil and add the pineapple slices to the pan. Grill for 1 to 2 minutes per side.
- Assemble the burgers by spreading the honey mustard onto the bottom bun, then adding lettuce if using. Then stack two patties together, with the cheese inbetween, and top with the grilled pineapple, bacon, and sliced red onions if using.
Recipe Tips and Notes
- Thinner burger patties and easier to stack.
- In the summer, I grill sliced pineapples on the BBQ but in the winter, I just grill them on the grill pan on the stovetop so I can get the grill marks on them. Feel free to just add them as is or pan-sear them if you don’t want to wash another pan.
- I like to toast my burger buns. Since I’m working with bacon, I usually brush some bacon grease onto the buns before adding them to a skillet on low heat.
- Cooked beef burger patties will last in the fridge for up to 4 days in an airtight container in the fridge.
- If your burger is sticking to the pan, it’s not ready to be flip yet. Let is cook for another minute or so, before trying to flip them again.
- To tell if the burgers are done, you can use a meat thermometer to ensure the patties are 160°F (71°C).

- You can easily cook all the burgers at once on the grill or in two skillets to save time. I went with one so I can wash fewer dishes.
- To cook on a grill, simply follow the same instructions and brush some oil onto your grill before adding the burger patties.
