Quick and easy, here are three fun and delicious ways to mix up your avocado toast!
Avocado Toast 3 Ways
I love avocado toast (like a stereotypical millennial, don’t judge me). However, the cost adds up since at the end of the day, avocado toast is so easy to make at home that it’s hard to justify paying $$$ at a restaurant for it.
Like I said, it’s so easy to make that honestly, you don’t really need a recipe. Just mash together some avocado and spread it on some toast! So today I’m sharing three ways that I love eating my avocado toast. While having it plain is fine and all, I find the fun toppings is what seals the deal. Plus, the toppings makes it even more filling!
How To Choose the Perfect Avocado
You want ripe but not over-ripe Hass avocados. Usually, an avocado has ripened when the skin darkens from green to a darker black colour. When you squeeze it, it shouldn’t be rock hard. It should have a little bit of a give but anymore (mushing down) and it’s over ripe! Once it hits that ripe phase and you don’t plan on eating it right away, refrigerate it to keep it from ripening further.
If you want to speed up ripening, store the avocados in a paper bag. I’ve read about the oven method, where you bake it to try and ripen it but I haven’t had much luck with that.
What You’ll Need To Make Regular Avocado Toast
- bread – lightly toasted
- avocados – I like using Hass avocados
- lemon juice – this keeps the avocado from browning quickly!
- salt
How To Make Avocado Toast
Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and spoon out the avocado into a bowl.
Using a fork, mash together the avocado, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a pinch of salt until it is the texture you like. Set aside.
Bacon and Honey Avocado Toast
- bacon
- honey
In a 400F oven, bake your bacon for 15-20 minutes, until it is crispy.
On your toast, spread your avocado mixture on top, add on the bacon, and drizzle honey on top of the bacon.
Sushi Avocado Toast
- smoked salmon
- furikake
On your toast, spread your avocado mixture on top, sprinkle some furikake, layer on smoked salmon, and sprinkle more furikake on top.
Eggs and Everything But The Bagel Avocado Toast
- butter
- eggs
- milk
- salt
- Everything But The Bagel Seasoning
On medium heat, melt butter in a pan, and stir in beaten egg and milk. Season with salt and gently stir until the eggs are cooked through.
On your toast, spread your avocado mixture on top, sprinkle some Everything But The Bagel Seasoning on, top with scrambled eggs, and top with more Everything But The Bagel Seasoning.
Recipe Variations
- swap bacon for turkey bacon
- swap honey for maple syrup
- don’t have furikake? cut up some roasted seaweed
- instead of scrambled egg, try a poached egg, or slice up a jammy egg (how to make the perfect eggs)
- don’t have EBTB Seasoning? Make your own!
- 1 1/2 tbsp sesame seeds
- 1 1/2 tsp black sesame seeds
- 1 tsp onion flakes
- 1 tsp poppy seeds
- 1/2 tsp garlic flakes
- 1/2 tsp flaky salt
Tips and Notes
I’ve tried mashing avocados with spoons before but the fork is 100% the better option.
A thick sturdy bread is best as it holds up the toppings better but you can always make-do with whatever you have on hand! Lightly toast it and you’re good to go!
