You will love this simple but delicious earl grey milk tea. It’s refreshing, flavourful, and you won’t be able to get enough. Made with only a few simple ingredients, you can be enjoying this earl grey tea with milk in no time.

It’s up to you whether you’d like this warm or cold. I love cozying up to a warm mug of milk tea in the winter but bubble tea is a year-round love for me.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- earl grey tea — loose leaf or tea bag is fine.
- milk — or non dairy alternative.
- muscovado sugar — or dark brown sugar. Muscovado sugar is a little less refined than regular brown sugar so it has more pronounced caramel and toffee notes to it.
- tapioca pearls — optional if you’d like to make this into a bubble tea. I use these specific ones for extra sweetness for this earl grey boba. You can use any topioca pearls you like.
- ice — if you prefer it cold.

How to Make Earl Grey Milk Tea
Method 1: Cold
Brown Sugar Syrup (and Tapioca)
- Prepare your tapioca pearls according to the package, if using.
- In a pot, combine the muscovado sugar with 40 ml of water and bring it to a boil.
- Turn down the heat to a simmer and add in the prepared tapioca pearls, if using. Simmer until the brown sugar syrup has thickened.
- Remove from heat once it has thickened and set aside.

Earl Grey Milk Tea
- Add an earl grey tea bag to 200ml of hot water. This can be done the night before and left in the fridge to make the tea more flavourful.
- In two glasses, add the brown sugar syrup, tapocia, and a handful of ice cubes.
- Add 250ml milk of your choice to each glass.
- Top off with the earl grey tea.

Method 2: Warm
- In a sauce pot, over medium-low heat, add brown sugar, milk, and 1 to 2 tea bags.
- Simmer for 5 minutes, or until the milk has become a light brown colour.
Recipe Tips and Notes
- Feel free to double or triple the recipe. It’s super easy!
- Don’t feel bound by my measurements! You can add make more tea and add less milk in the cold version if you prefer it more strong. You can add more or less sugar depending on how sweet you’d like your earl grey milk tea to be.
- Make it vegan by swapping dairy milk for non-dairy milk.
