This simple homemade banana milk recipe requires less than 5 ingredients and is made in seconds! It tastes just like Binggrae’s banana milk and costs a fraction of the store-bought version to make at home!
Have you ever had Korean banana milk? I absolutely adore it and will still grab a pack of 6 out of nostalgia. However, it’s actually quite pricey as it costs almost $8 for a pack of 6 and I inhale it in seconds haha.
So to be kinder to my wallet, I’ve been making my own homemade banana milk! While it involves me having to wash my blender, I’m ok with it because looking at their ingredient list, mine is much shorter as it doesn’t have to be shelf-stable so I don’t feel as bad drinking wayyyy too much of this banana flavored milk.
What is Korean Banana Milk?
If you’ve never heard of banana milk and stumbled upon my post randomly, here’s what it is! Korean banana milk (or banana uyu, 바나나 우유) is a processed milk that was released in June 1974 by Binggrae.
It was made to reflect the government’s policy at the time to encourage milk consumption to foster the dairy industry. Banana was the desired fruit at the time and so, banana milk was born! Over time, different flavours have been introduced and Binggrae’s Strawberry Milk is a contender for my #1 spot!
Ingredients You’ll Need to Make this Korean Banana Milk Recipe
- banana — the more brown your bananas, the sweeter your Korean banana milk will be! Got extra bananas? Try my roasted banana milk recipe as well!
- milk — or non-dairy alternatives such as soy milk or almond milk. Keep in mind that some non-dairy milk has strong flavoring to them and may affect the taste of this Korean banana milk.
- cold filtered water — I love my brita lol
- maple syrup — make sure you are using real maple syrup and not pancake syrup.
- vanilla extract — I like using real vanilla extract instead of artificial extract.
How to Make Homemade Banana Milk
- In a blender, add all your ingredients in and blend until smooth.
- Once blended, enjoy immediately.
Tips
- Adjust the maple syrup to your liking, H found 1 tbsp of maple syrup to be quite sweet, so I’ve decreased it to ¾ tbsp. The banana itself is quite sweet as well, depending on its stage of ripeness.
- Feel free to double or triple this recipe if you’re making it for your entire family!
- It’s best to consume banana milk immediately as it does tend to separate if left alone for too long. If you’ve made too much, store it in the fridge overnight and shake it to combine it again before drinking.
