Bagels in Under 30 Minutes
I’m one of those people that will buy bread when it goes on sale but can never finish it before it goes bad! So, I’ve just started making my own bread to avoid that food waste.
Lately, I’ve been craving bagels so I thought I’d just make my own! Especially because I had just stocked up on Everything Bagel Seasoning from Costco! These bagels are super easy to make as well as scaling up and scaling down. I do a 1:1 ratio of flour to greek yogurt.
What You’ll Need To Make Bagels in the Air Fryer

- flour — I used plain all purple bleached white flour. Nothing fancy. I haven’t tried this with other flours unfortunately.
- Greek yogurt — I recommend using plain, full-fat yogurt. I don’t recommend swapping for regular yogurt as it’s not as thick and it’s also much sweeter.
- baking powder — to help the bagel rise.
- salt — just a pinch
- garlic powder & onion powder — an optional add-in to the bagel dough. I love a delicious savory bagel, so I add garlic and onion powder. Not a fan? Skip it.
- egg — beat the egg before brushing the bagels to get the toppings to stick!
- seasoning of choice: Everything Bagel Seasoning.
How to Make Bagels in the Air Fryer

- Combine the flour, greek yogurt, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, with 2 tbsp of water in a large mixing bowl.

- Mix with a machine (I use a KitchenAid) or by hand, until the dough is well combined. The dough will be thick and a little tacky.

- On a floured surface, cut the dough into 8 even pieces. I cut mine in half, then halved those halves twice.

- Roll out each of the pieces into approximately 8-8.5 inch long logs before pinching the ends together into a loop/bagel shape.

- Brush the top of the bagels with a beaten egg and sprinkle on top the seasoning of your choice.

- Air fry for 12 minutes at 350F.

- Let cool before enjoying!

Make Ahead Tips
- Storage: once cooled, store the air fryer bagels in an airtight container for 2 to 3 days in the fridge.
- Meal prep: you can prepare the dough up to 2 days ahead of time and leave it covered in the fridge before you air fry it.
- Freezer: allow the air fryer Greek yogurt bagels to to cool before transferring them into an airtight container before storing them in the freezer. Store for up to 3 months. Reheat them like you would any frozen bread, directly from frozen in the toaster, oven, or air fryer until warmed through.

Recipe Tips and Notes
- This homemade bagel with no yeast recipe was tested in the Philips XXL air fryer.
- If you want to toast these air fryer bagels in the air fryer, slice them in half, spray them with some olive oil, and bake them cut-side up in the air fryer for 2 to 3 minutes at 350F.
- For extra flavor, you can even add dried herbs to the dough. I like dried basil.
- While I sprinkle my Everything Bagel Seasoning on top of my bagels, if you want a more dense topping, you can always do the egg wash and then dunk the bagel into a bowl of the seasoning to get more of the bagel covered. I find this method to be a little wasteful as I can’t reuse the seasoning after it comes in contact with raw egg, and the method works best if you want the tops of the bagels to be fully covered with toppings.
- Unfortunately, I haven’t had much luck adapting these bagels in the oven, and even with a high temperature and timing, the insides come out a little under and spongey. I recommend only making these in the air fryer.
- If your dough is sticky, add a pinch of more flour.
- Make sure you don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. The bagels do expand a bit while they air fry, so you don’t want them too close to each other, or they’ll end up sticking together.
Bagel Topping Ideas
The best part about making homemade air fryer bagels is how you can customize them however you want! Making it for your bagel and everyone wants a different topping? No problem, each bagel can have a different topping without having to buy a full sleeve of each. Here are a few more toppings I like!
- poppy seeds
- white sesame seeds
- shredded cheese such as asiago, cheddar, or mozzarella cheese.
- dried minced garlic
- cinnamon sugar

Joanne Yargeau says
Tried this receipe and dough was too wet and could not roll it. Just put small amounts on parchment paper and air fried them. Not very good. What can I do to make these bagels.
Carmy says
Hi Joanne, did you change anything in the ingredients? I’ve made this multiple times as written and have never had the dough become too wet. The photos in the post show how my dough always looks.
Hina says
Hi Carmy, when you use your kitchenaid to mix the dough, do you use the dough hook attachment or paddle attachment? Thanks.
Carmy says
Hi Hina, I used my Spiral Dough Hook.
