Extra creamy and delicious, this Tofu Smoothie is packed with protein. It is so filling and easy to make! I used cherries and bananas in this tofu smoothie but you can use whatever frozen fruit you prefer!
Adding tofu to a smoothie might seem like an odd choice, but it’s surprisingly delicious. Tofu blends up wonderfully to make a creamy and silky smoothie, and you won’t even notice the tofu in your drink.
Why You’ll Love This Smoothie
- It only requires a few ingredients and takes less than 5 minutes to blend together. It’s perfect for when you’re in a rush in the mornings and need something filling!
- The tofu in the smoothie provides a ton of protein! It’ll keep you full until your next meal.
- This tofu cherry smoothie recipe doesn’t use ice so you don’t have to worry that the smoothie will get watered down.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- milk — I use whole milk, but you can also use water, almond milk, cashew milk, etc.
- frozen fruit — I used frozen cherries. Feel free to use whatever frozen fruit you have on hand!
- banana — half to one full banana contributes to the creamy texture of this tofu smoothie. Using frozen bananas help keeps the smoothie creamy, thick, and chilly. You can use fresh bananas as well. The more brown spots they have, the sweeter the bananas are.
- tofu — make sure to use silken tofu, so it blends smoothly into your smoothie! They come in containers or logs, you can use either. If you have extra silken tofu, try my favorite appetizer: silken tofu recipe.
- maple syrup or honey — as an optional sweetener, you can add some maple syrup or honey. If you use a sweetened milk (such as sweetened almond milk), you might not need any.
How to Make a Tofu Smoothie
- In a high-powered blender, combine all of the ingredients. Blend until creamy. Add more milk if you want a thinner consistency.
Recipe Tips and Notes
- It helps to have the milk at the bottom of the blender so the blades can move more freely. If your blender has a tamper, you’ll need it to push the smoothie around.
- Instead of milk, you can use juice instead.
- Do not use medium, firm, or extra firm tofu for this smoothie. It will not blend up smooth and will taste more strongly of tofu!
- If you only have dessert tofu, keep in mind it comes pre-sweetened.
You may taste some soy flavoring (kinda like if you added a splash of soy milk to your smoothie), but there isn’t a strong tofu taste to this smoothie. The tofu makes the smoothie creamy and silky, but the smoothie will taste like the fruit you use. In this case, cherries and bananas!
You can! Simply use dairy-free milk in place of dairy milk.
Any! Simply swap the same amount of your fruit of choice in place of the frozen cherries. Try peaches, mangos, pineapples, raspberries, or blueberries. Those are the fruit always stocked in my freezer.
I don’t recommend making this smoothie more than a day ahead of time as the ingredients will start to separate. You can give it a quick stir or blend to combine everything again if it does separate.
