This viral bacon sensation has taken Tik Tok by storm! Here’s how to make Twisted Bacon at home. This Tik Tok bacon twist is the perfect combination between crispy and chewy.
When I saw these twisted bacon sticks on Tik Tok, I knew I had to try it. They’re a little tedious to make as you have to individually twist the bacon but it yields delicious bacon that’s crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside.
Why You Need To Try This Tik Tok Bacon
- It’s perfect for breakfast or as a snack. It kind of reminds me of eating Pocky since it’s twisted into a bacon stick. Add it to a charcuterie board, a Caeser, or a snack board!
- It’s bacon. I mean, there’s really nothing better than bacon is there? I could just eat these twisted bacon sticks on their own as a stand-alone meal lol.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- bacon β thick cut or normal is fine.
You’ll also need a rimmed sheet pan and tin foil. I also like to have a paper towel on hand to absorb any excess oil afterwards.
How to Make Twisted Bacon
- Heat oven to 350Β°F and line a sheet pan with tin foil.
- Twist each slice of bacon individually, by holding the top and bottom of each slice and twisting them in the opposite direction for each other until it’s fully twisted.
- Place them side by side onto the sheet pan and bake for 45 minutes. Flipping the bacon sticks at the halfway mark.
- If the exterior of the bacon is not as crispy as you prefer, broil for 1 to 2 minutes, keeping a close eye on it.
- When done, transfer the bacon to a plate, serving platter, or another sheet pan lined with a paper towel to absorb any excess oil before serving.
What Do I Do With the Bacon Grease?
I save the bacon grease from the sheet pan into a jar. You can use the bacon grease for pretty much anything you’d use oil for. I like to sautΓ© my vegetables in it for extra flavour. Bacon grease can last in your fridge for up to 3 months!
All I do is pour the sheet pan of grease through a fine-mesh strainer into a glass jar. Glass is best because the hot grease will melt everything else. You have to work fast as the grease might start hardening on the sheet pan as it cools.
Make Ahead Tips
- Meal prep: store the cooked bacon in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the fridge. I like to reheat mine in the air fryer to keep it crispy.
- Freezer: allow the bacon to cool before transferring it into an airtight container before storing them in the freezer for up to 3 months.
FAQs
I don’t cook my bacon on a cooling rack as I don’t find much difference in crispiness with and without one. So I save myself from having to scrub a cooling rack and skip using it entirely.
I usually don’t flip it when I cook bacon in the oven but due to it being twisted and not flat, I flip my bacon at the halfway mark.
You can always add 1 to 2 minutes to your cook time if your bacon isn’t crispy. I found 45 to 50 minutes to be the sweet spot for pretty much any bacon I have, especially the Kirkland one from Costco that I buy in bulk. Keep in mind that the bacon will crisp up a bit more and harden after you’ve pulled it out of the oven, while it’s cooling.
You can skip the tin foil if you’d like, it just means you’ll have to spend more time scrubbing your sheet pans after. Alternatively, you can use parchment paper.
While I’ve seen cayenne pepper and brown sugar being added to bacon twists to change things up, I haven’t tried it. I prefer my bacon, as is.
