This cheesy Instant Pot Chicken Pasta is an easy dump and go recipe that’ll have dinner on the table in less than 10 minutes! Perfect as a meal prep too.
Cheesy Instant Pot Chicken Pasta
Made with chicken parmesan in mind, this Instant Pot Chicken Parmesan Pasta takes only minutes to put together and 7 minutes to cook under pressure! Plus you can skip the breading and baking of traditional chicken parmesan for this Instant Pot pasta version!
Instant Pot pasta recipes have really become a go-to for whenever I’m feeling the time crunch or when I’m just feeling lazy after a day of work. It’s pretty much a dump and go recipe so there is pretty much 0 effort involved outside of dicing the chicken and then mixing in the cheese afterwards.
Note: I’ve only tested this recipe using a Duo Plus 9 in 1 Instant Pot (6 qt). Adjustments may have to be made if you are using a different model or a different sized Instant Pot.
What You’ll Need To Make Instant Pot Chicken Pasta with Cheese
- shallots: I like shallots for this recipe but you can also sub in onions instead
- garlic
- chicken breast: diced
- dried basil
- dried oregano
- salt
- pasta: I used cavatappi pasta but you can use what you have on hand
- chicken stock: I like using Better than Bouillon Chicken Base
- pasta sauce: I used a mix of two sauces. You can sub in with the pasta sauce of your choice or marinara sauce.
- mozzarella cheese
- parmesan cheese
How to Make Instant Pot Chicken Pasta
- In your Instant Pot, layer your ingredients in the order they are listed: shallots, garlic, chicken breasts, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, pasta, chicken stock, and pasta sauce. Do not mix. Gently spread the pasta sauce over the pasta if needed.
- Set the Instant Pot lid valve to sealing and set the manual pressure for 7 minutes. Once done, quick release.
- Stir in the mozzarella and parmesan until melted into the pasta or close the lid and let the leftover steam melt the cheeses.
Substitutions and Tips
- chicken thighs can be subbed in for the chicken breasts but add 2 minutes to the cook time.
- pasta can be subbed for any type of regular pasta as long as it’s the same amount. This recipe has not been tested with gluten free pastas.
- if you want more flavour and you have extra time, you can sauté the shallots and garlic first with some olive oil or butter. Use a bit of stock to deglaze the IP afterwards if needed before layering in the rest of the ingredients.
How To Store Leftovers
Store your leftover chicken pasta into an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Meal Prep Tips
If you’re meal prepping this and want extra gooey cheese, sprinkle some mozzarella on top of your pasta before storing it in the fridge. This way, when you reheat it, the cheese melts on top of the pasta!
