The perfect side dish for a holiday meal or any meal, this baked sweet potato recipe made in the air fryer will have you making flawless baked sweet potatoes every time!
Air Fryer Baked Sweet Potato
Like I mentioned in my air fryer baked potato post, I find that no holiday dinner is complete without a side of potatoes, whether it be mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, wedges, or fries. I also feel that way about regular meals in general as I find that potatoes are pretty much my carb of choice with any meal.
Sweet potatoes are full of potassium and fibre in addition to be low in fat and calories. Sweet potatoes also provide you with pretty much your daily dose of vitamin A as well! Sweet potatoes are definitely something you’re going to want to be a part of your meal prep.
Not too long ago, sweet potatoes were on sale so I bought around 10 (bless H for carrying it all lol) and I’ve pretty much been living off sweet potatoes since! It’s honestly a toss up between me preferring to meal prep roasted sweet potato cubes more or baked sweet potato more. Which do you prefer?
However it is summer and while I love baked sweet potatoes, I want to avoid making our kitchen even hotter than it already is, I’ve been relying on my air fryer more for baking my sweet potatoes. After air frying the sweet potatoes a couple of times, I think I much prefer air frying sweet potatoes than oven baking them!
And just like regular baked potatoes, the air fryer makes the perfect baked sweet potatoes every time! My sweet potatoes are pretty large and my Philips XXL air fryer holds two potatoes perfectly so it works out great for when I want to make one for myself and H.
What You’ll Need To Make The Perfect Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes
- sweet potatoes
- olive oil
- salt
- garlic powder
While I know cinnamon and nutmeg is a popular choice when seasoning sweet potatoes, I prefer salt and garlic powder as it keeps the sweet potatoes savoury so they are more versatile and go with more dishes.
How To Make Baked Sweet Potatoes in the Air Fryer
- Lightly coat your sweet potatoes (after scrubbing and patting dry) with some oil and sprinkle some salt and garlic powder on. Prick them 4-6 times across the surface with a fork.
- Place the sweet potatoes into your air fryer, making sure there’s space between them to allow the hot air to circulate between them.
- Turn your air fryer on and set it to 400F for 35-40 minutes.
- After 35-40 minutes, open your air fryer and give the potatoes a gentle squeeze on the side to see if they’re done.
- Once done, split them open and put your choice of toppings on them or eat them plain!
Note: these sweet potatoes definitely took longer than my baked potatoes as they are quite large! Keep an eye on your sweet potatoes if they are on the smaller side.
