Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- It’s super easy to make. All you have to do is combine the ingredients and allow it to simmer and infuse the heat into the honey.
- You can customize it much more easily than store-bought hot honey sauce. Make it as spicy or as sweet as you’d like.
- It’s pretty budget-friendly compared to buying pre-made hot honey.
- It’s SO good! It’s so flavorful, and I am obsessed with putting it on everything.
- Want to make an edible gift? Hot honey makes for a great gift as well.
Ingredients You’ll Need To Make Hot Honey Sauce
- honey — if you can get local liquid honey, that’s ideal. I love local honey as I think it tastes much more flavorful and you can support your local beekeepers! Don’t have access to local honey? No problem. Regular liquid honey is perfectly fine.
- hot element — this hot honey recipe gives you three options on how to make hot honey at home. You can make hot honey with jalapenos, red chili flakes, or hot sauce.
- apple cider vinegar — if you don’t have ACV, that’s fine. However, I think it adds a delicious tangy flavor to the hot honey.
How to Make Hot Honey
- Add honey, apple cider vinegar, and sliced jalapenos/red chili flakes/hot sauce to a small saucepan.
- Heat the honey mixture gently over medium heat just until you see some bubbles near the edge of the saucepan. Stirring gently throughout. Do not allow it to boil!
- Remove the mixture from the heat, and everything infuse for 15 to 20 minutes.
- If using red pepper flakes or jalapenos, strain the honey through a fine mesh sieve into an airtight container.
- Use immediately or store for later.
Recipe Tips and Notes
- Make sure you are using clean glass jar to store the hot honey.
- You can double or triple this recipe easily.
- If using jalapeno, make sure to fully strain the mixture to ensure you don’t end up with jalapeno in the honey and spoil it over time.
- If infusing the honey with jalapeno, make sure you keep the seeds! They help add heat to the honey.
Storage Tips
- Honey has an extremely long shelf life. However, I recommend using this hot honey within 2 months. It only makes 1 cup of honey, so it should be used up quickly!
- Keep the honey in a cool, dry place such as your pantry. Storing honey in the fridge will cause it to crystalize.
Ways to Use Hot Honey
Here are some of my favorite ways to use hot honey! Feel free to let me know in the comments how you use your hot honey!
- As a dip — use it in place of a pizza dip or dip your french fries in it.
- Drizzled over bread — try it with my focaccia or no-knead bread.

- Drizzled over vegetables — roasted vegetables with some hot honey is amazing! Try my roasted brussels sprouts with bacon and hot honey.
