Sweet, creamy, and perfectly spiced, this iced pumpkin spice latte comes together in a few easy steps! You only need a handful of simple ingredients to make this popular PSL in your own kitchen.
When fall hits, I just want pumpkin everything. The first thing I usually get is a pumpkin spice latte but this year, when PSL season came around, there was still a mini heatwave happening, so this homemade iced pumpkin spice latte immediately became my go-to instead.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- It’s made with simple, real ingredients you might have on hand already! Pumpkin puree, maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice, milk, and espresso!
- It’s much more budget-friendly to make pumpkin spice latte at home than running out to SB whenever the craving hits. Whenever I go, I get one for my partner and I, so I don’t have to share, and it comes out to around $13. It costs a fraction of that to make it at home.
- It’s pretty easy to make! You don’t need anything fancy to make a homemade PSL. I use a Nespresso for the espresso and Smeg milk frother, but you can easily make it with what you have on hand.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- espresso — I’m using a vanilla pod from Nespresso, so it has vanilla flavor combined with sweet biscuits and cereal notes. Feel free to brew any espresso of your choice with your preferred method or half a cup of cold brew or strongly freshly brewed coffee.
- pumpkin puree — make sure you are using pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling. They’re usually side by side on the shelves, but pumpkin pie filling is seasoned and sweetened, whereas pumpkin puree is just pumpkin. Pumpkin puree usually comes in a large can, so this recipe is great for using up leftover puree. However, if you’re opening up a new can of pumpkin puree, you can always freeze leftover pumpkin puree in ice cube molds until ready to use again. Try my homemade pumpkin puree if you can’t find it in a can!
- pumpkin pie spice — pumpkin pie spice is made up of a wonderful blend of warm spices like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves, giving the iced latte its classic flavor.
- maple syrup — I prefer maple syrup, but you can use your favorite sweetener.
- milk — I use whole milk, but you can use any milk of choice, such as oat milk or almond milk.
- ice — you’ll need ice for an iced latte!
How to Make Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte
- Prepare your coffee. I use a coffee maker to make my espresso.
- To a measuring cup, add the pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, maple syrup, and espresso and mix until well combined.
- Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, if desired. Make sure to push the mixture through.
- Fill a glass with ice.
- Add the mixture to the glass.
- Top off with milk.
- Serve immediately with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice if desired.
Recipe Tips and Notes
- I personally run the pumpkin mixture through a fine mesh strainer, as the spices and pumpkin puree add texture to the drink and I personally prefer a smoother drink.
- Alternatively, you can add everything but the espresso and ice to a blender and blend it all up before pouring the mixture over ice and adding espresso to make for a smooth drink.
- You can make this to enjoy in the evening by using decaf espresso.
- You can make this iced pumpkin spice latte vegan by using non-dairy milk.
- Honey or brown sugar makes for a great alternative to maple syrup.
- As pumpkin puree does not have a strong pumpkin flavor, the pumpkin pie spice does a lot of the heavy lifting in flavoring this latte. Make sure your spice bottle is relatively fresh, as stale spices will lead to a disappointing drink.
