Sweet Hoisin Lemon Shrimp Meal Prep
If you don’t like to eat shrimp then we can’t be friends. Actually, correction, we can be friends if you let me eat your share of shrimp. Shrimp is one of my favourite things to eat but it really hurts my heart when a bag of 20-ish shrimp costs $16.99 so I skip past it towards the chicken at the grocery store. HOWEVER, on a recent stop to the store, these bad boys were on sale (only $2 off but whatever, I’ll take it!) so I nabbed a few bags and excitedly went home. To be honest, I’m sure there’s cheaper shrimp available but I like getting the deveined, shells peeled, and tail on shrimp because it saves me time having to devein and remove the shells myself so I probably shouldn’t complain about the price. Anyways, this easy sweet hoisin lemon shrimp meal prep has been a household favourite recently because the sweetness from the hoisin sauce matched with the tangy-ness from the lemon is like a little flavour explosion in your mouth!
What You’ll Need To Make this Hoisin Lemon Shrimp Meal Prep
- hoisin sauce
- lemons (juice and zest)
- honey
- garlic powder
- shrimp
- skewers
- to make this into a full meal prep, I paired it with some broccoli and corn. Other alternatives include serving it with quinoa, rice, roasted potatoes, asparagus, green salad, the possibilities are endless!
How To Make This Sweet Hoisin Lemon Shrimp Meal Prep
- If you didn’t purchase deveined/peeled shrimp, you’re going to want to start by deveining them
- In a bowl, mix together hoisin sauce, lemon juice, lemon zest, honey, and garlic powder. You can set some sauce aside as dipping sauce for servings or you can re-make some afterwards with half the amount of each ingredient
- Once the sauce is mixed, in a large ziploc bag, combine the shrimp and sauce. Let the shrimp marinate in the sauce for at least 30 minutes to an hour or overnight. While the shrimp is marinading, soak your skewers in water to prevent them from burning if you are not using metal skewers.
- During the marinading time, you can work on your sides if you want (quinoa, rice, roasted potatoes, etc can take up to 30 minutes so it’ll be a great use of time). Since I was just going to blanch the broccoli and serve with a side of corn, I waited to do it while the shrimp would be in the oven. I just did some chores while I waited for the shrimp to marinate. I also heated up the oven to 400F.
- Bonus recipe: how to blanch broccoli: prepare a bowl of ice water and have it next to the stove. Bring a large pot of water to a rapid boil. Add a tablespoon of salt and then add the broccoli florets and cook until crisp-tender, this should take around 1 to 1.5 minutes. Quickly remove the broccoli once done with a slotted spoon and immediately place it in the ice water.
- Once the shrimp are done marinading, I placed them on the skewers, placed them on a sheet pan, gave them one last brush of the marinade, and place it into the oven for 6-8 minutes (cook until your shrimp is firm and pink), flipping it halfway.
Variations for this shrimp meal prep
- If you prefer to make these sweet hoisin lemon shrimp skewers to be skewer-less, simply heat a small drizzle of oil in a large skillet over medium to medium-high heat. Add the marinated shrimp and cook, stirring regularly, for about 5 minutes, or until pink and no longer translucent.
- Grill these sweet hoisin lemon shrimp skewers instead: place the shrimp skewers on a grill heated to about medium or medium high, 2-3 minutes per side.
- If you don’t want to bring seafood to work, this marinade works lovely with chicken as well. Just cut them into cubes and place them on the skewers and bake or grill until it’s cooked through.

Hi, whats the purpose of the skewers if the shrimp are laying flat on a sheet pan anyway? Cant you just put the marinated shrimp straight on the pan?
Carmy says
Hi Alice! I’m so sorry! The instructions should have included flipping them halfway. The skewers were for making it easier to flip the shrimp quickly. I’ll update the recipe to reflect that.
Monae says
Does the calories reflect shrimp only?
Carmy says
Hi Monae, the calories include the broccoli and corn listed in the recipe card!
